Mission: help children in Mongolia

Do you remember Radosław Szczęsny who taught children in Liberia last year? This year he went to Mongolia to help. At RITS he is an Associate Consultant and deals with recruitment projects for middle and senior management on a daily basis. After work – he plays sports such as football or squash, he is a fan of Stephen King’s books, but above all he is a volunteer.

In Mongolia, it is estimated that 43% of children eat one meal a day, wear only one clothes, and do not attend any school. In 2001, a center for street children and a technical school were opened in the capital city – Ulaanbaatar. There are currently over 20 boys at Savio Home. This is where Radek and three friends were going to help. The mission began on August 8.

– I think it’s very important to open up to others, especially nowadays when many people need our help. We don’t have to go to another continent to help others. First of all, we have to search locally, because many people around us also need help – says Radosław Szczęsny, Associate Consultant RITS Professional Services.

He had the opportunity to go to Mongolia on behalf of the Salesian Missionary Volunteering “Youth for the World” from Wrocław.

– During this time, I was in the street boys’ house, where there are children who do not have their own families and are very often left on their own. Every day I conducted various activities for them, such as English, computer science, art classes, dancing or just playing basketball with them. In addition, we managed to organize a weekend summer camp for children from the village of Shuvuu. There, I also taught children computer science and English for 2 weeks. I was most impressed by how the boys support each other. They are a family to themselves, and this has been shown in little things such as sharing food, cheering younger crying boys, or having fun together every day. From an early age, children learn to clean, cook, work in the garden, which is to help them during their adult life. The conditions in which people live are very unpleasant. Many people live in yurts or apartments in tin houses, only in the center of the capital we have modern buildings, but when we go to the outskirts, we see terrible poverty. I did not think that I would develop such a strong bond with these boys in such a short time. Saying goodbye to them was probably the hardest thing I’ve ever done in my life. I would like to thank our company that helped with my departure. I am very happy that we can do something good for the world together – says Radek Szczęsny.

This is not Radek’s first and probably not his last mission.

Words are always followed by actions. He is a great employee and a fantastic work colleague, thanks to whom the sun is always shining in our team.
